Author Profile - Alicia Bennett

Brisbane born, Alicia Bennett is a veteran of thirteen years within the Queensland Police Service, retiring in 2006 as a Detective Sergeant. Alicia self-published her debut poetry collection The Tincture of Salt in 2004 and her second collection, Faith in 2007. Alicia has performed at several Queensland Poetry Festivals and Brisbane Writers Festivals. Alicia's first contribution to the Murder Trails series was in the true crime compendium BLOODY BRISBANE: Murder on the River City.

Alicia is passionate about Brisbane history and in the context of her writing, is interested in the ways in which Australian women negotiate their lives within the framework of our society. Alicia continues to be involved within the criminal justice system.

Alicia's first Murder Trails casebook is DEATH BEFORE DISHONOUR: The Crime That Broke Brisbane's Heart which she explored in her contribution to BLOODY BRISBANE: Murder in the River City. It investigates the brutal killing, in 1947, of a young woman, and the suicide of a respected accountant after he was sentenced to life for the crime. Through detailed research and private photographs, Alicia, explores the doubts and a sense of guilt that still lingers.
